Ovarian Cysts Diagnosis

When doctors investigate for potential ovarian cysts, they rely on pelvic exams, imaging studies and laboratory tests. If your physician discovers a problem area during a pelvic exam, the following imaging tests may be performed:

  • Ultrasound
  • MRI
  • CT scan

For a more comprehensive work-up, blood tests can also be ordered that may include tests, which measure these relevant categories:

  • Hormone levels –lutenizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and testosterone
  • CA-125 – measures protein levels to look for possible cancer
  • Serum HCG – pregnancy test
